My Story

Update - 12/21/05 I am a new and improved dog. I love other dogs and people. I can run like the wind even through I have had hip surgery. I love to follow my person along. I love to sleep in bed with someone. The vet said my surgery healed up beautifully. He said the vet school did an outstanding job. I can run from all the other dogs in my house. I am always the first to meet other foster dogs because I do so well with other dogs. I guess I am the head greeter. I have a special friend Hailey that needs a home as well. So if you wanted two dogs we would be a great match. UPDATE 5/1/05 - Centaur is doing great. He is putting weight on his leg more and more. He is starting to play hard and run. Of course he does tire fast and will get cranky at times but on the whole he is so much better. He is still looking for a forever home. UPDATE 4/10/05 - Centaur is back in his foster home and doing well. He has to restrict his activity for the next two weeks. He hates this but he is loving going for leash walks. We never knew how much he liked being walked. He gets extra bones while in his crate being quiet and heaven forbid another dog comes near his crate. UPDATE 4/6/05 7:00 PM - Just arrived back from the vet school. When the surgeon saw Centaur and his size said that Total Hip Replacement would have a higher risk of complications. He thought that if he had an FHO procedure there would be less risks and would give Centaur a great deal of relief. After much discussion we decided to go with the FHO. Centaur may still need to have the second one done in six months. His recuperation time is only 2 weeks as opposed to 3-4 months. He will come home to his foster home a day early. The cost will be around $1,400 for one hip and the surgeon will also take care of his knee which pops out at the same time. So for now we have enough money to pay for the one hip thanks to Centaur's angels. We will have almost enough to do the second hip in six months. So we were surprised at the turn of events but feel it was the best decision for Centaur at this time. UPDATE 4/6/05 - I am going up to Raleigh to have my surgery on one hip today. Even through we have not raised all of the money to do this my rescue group is going ahead and doing the surgery. I will feel so much better. They had changed my pain medicine but lately the hips were getting more painful. So even through I don't like to ride in the car I am looking forward to this three hour trip up to the vet school. I come home on Saturday and will have to restrict my activity for awhile. So wish me luck. If you want to help pay for my surgery you can send donations to the address below. Hi! My name is Centaur and I am 1 year old as of Jan 22, 2005. I am house trained and crate trained. I get along great with kids and other dogs. I have a long stocky body and I am super cute and very lovable. I recently started to bunny hop on my back legs. I, also, recently started to cry when I moved a certain way. I have hip dysplasia. The vet says I am a patient to have both my hips totally replaced. I also will need knee surgery after I have my hips taken care of. I will sometime be up all night whimpering because I cannot get comfortable. My foster family is looking into many options for me but the surgery is still going to run us in the thousands of dollars. I am too young to be this uncomfortable. I really just want to play with my friends. But now I try to find the softest place in the house to lay down and get comfortable. If you can help send a donation to Centaur - Operation CARE PO Box 3206 Matthews NC 28106. Thank you so much. UPDATE: Centaur's surgery is scheduled for April 7. He arrives at the vet school on the 6th and will be ready to go back to his foster home on the 9th. We currently have $2200 towards his surgery and we need a total of $3400. I am micro-chipped.
