Celtic is a p/s male who was the runt of the litter and was stepped on by his mother at two weeks old so he has a funny gait. Other than that he is fine health wise. The only time his funny gait is seen is when he is going up and down stairs. He will be checked out thoroughly when he arrives here in the next few days. He is a very sweet, loving, friendly dog. Outgoing with new people and is an all-around love-bug, he is also very energetic. He is housebroken, neutered and has uncropped ears.
After we got Celtic into rescue and did the medical evaluation on him, it was discovered that he has severe dyplasia in both hips and arthritis. What the owner had been told about his funny gait was not correct. Celtic has no idea how serious his problem is as he is full of love and energy. That energy gives out quickly and he has to take a rest. VSGSR has decided to go ahead with the surgery necessary to replace one of his hips to give him an excellent shot at a fairly normal life. The specialist he was taken to said that without the surgery, his life expectancy wouldn't be more than two years.
To this end VSGSR is having auctions on Ebay to raise funds for the surgery. You may find the auctions under the Ebay user ID of giantschnauzerrescue. Locally a 1981 Kawasaki Touring motorcycle has been donated to VSGSR in order to raise funds for the surgery. Half of the monies raised are going to a veteran's group here in Phoenix. Other donations may be made through Paypal using our email address of
[email protected] as our user ID when making donations. We are a 501(c)3 organization and a tax receipt will be sent for donations made. Celtic is an absolute doll of a giant. He is sweet and affectionate and loves his giant friends as well as all the people he has met. We can't say enough good things about Mr Celtic. He is having his surgery this Wednesday and in about two months he will be as good as new and looking for a wonderful new home to dote on him. He is one of the sweetest and nicest giants that VSGSR has had.
Celtic is doing well following his surgery. He will be taking it easy for several more months. Thank you to everyone who has helped to make this possible for this sweet boy. The newest picture is of Celtic after his surgery. The scar can be seen on his hip. He has 6-8 weeks before his next vet appointment to assess his progress.
Celtic has had his surgery and doing well. He is still in recovery. Thank you again to all who have helped him.
