My Story

UPDATE 1/13/2008:Tonight the groomer from SuperPetz (Kelli) came over to do the dogs' nails. When it came to Casey, I put on the muzzle and brought her out on leash. She stood by Kelli, no growling or pulling her legs away, and let Kelli cut her nails. When Kelli was done, I took the muzzle off and she went over to Kelli and started pawing at her and making noises, like Hey pet me, pet me. She actually started to roll around on the floor and play with Kelli. She has never met Kelli before so this was a major moment for her. She went over to Kelli's friend and sat between his legs and looked up at him as if to say Hey pet me, don't you see me. When I put her back in her crate, Kelli walked over to her and said 'Hey you aren't going to growl at me are you' and Casey gave her a kiss through her crate. All I can say is that I am SO proud of her.
She has shown some of this behavior with my mom but not quite as extreme as she did tonight. Maybe since our house isn't a quiet one, she has learned that not all strangers are bad.
UPDATE 10/28/07: Casey is settling in nicely. She likes to play bow the other dogs so she can play. She likes to cuddle with our daughter so she can be pet. When you stop petting her, she'll bark at you as if to say 'Hey I wasn't done, I want more.' It's so cute. She will protect her crate when she's in by barking at the dogs but as soon as you let her out, she's fine. She loves to lay on the floor and play with her toys.

Casey is a very sweet girl! She was surrendered to rescue because her owner’s brother has developed severe allergies to dogs and cats. The family had to re-home their cat and their other dog because his allergies are so bad. She is very good for the vet and groomer. She was very sweet when our volunteers went to meet her, she was play bowing and let them touch her all over. She doesn’t like having her feet touched but she did let our volunteers play with her paws. She does not like to be picked up. She listens very well to commands and is very food motivated. She is spayed and up to date on her shots.

All of our dogs are housebroken, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and crate trained (or working on it!) They are living in homes with foster families, not in a shelter or kennel.
