My Story

Camille has the most expressive face of any dog I’ve ever cared for, when she’s happy the room lights up. What a rewarding thing that is. She’s a far cry from the frightened shut down dog that arrived here a couple months ago. She’d been tied to a riding lawn mower with a short heavy chain, for almost a year, with only a small box to sleep in. Camille is a gentle soul, light on her feet, a joy to watch as she runs and plays. When I look at that sweet happy face or watch her running with such ease, it deeply saddens me to think of what it must have been like for her, all alone, trapped on that chain. Since coming to live with us Camille has been through a beginning pet dog manners class and did very well. Actually she was already very good and easy to have in the house; she just needed to get out, to help build her confidence. She can still be timid with some new people, mostly men, and will need someone willing to continue the socializing work we’ve started. Though she seems fine with children a busy home full of lots of youngsters and their friends is probably too much for Camille at this time. Once she knows someone she doesn’t forget them and greets all her friends with a wonderful happy smile. Camille loves to play with other dogs, and is good with our dog savvy cats. She knows sit, down, wait, shake, and find your toy. Her new trick is weaving though my legs, a freestyle dance move. She comes when called, loves water, retrieves and has no desire to roam. When she was rescued it was very evident that she’d never been brushed. Her coat was one big matted fleece and had to be shaved. She was in such bad condition that it’s hard to know just how long her hair will be. It’s probably grown out about half way. One thing’s for sure, she will need a family that will brush her regularly. Camille is looking for a family that is willing to continue her training and socializing, supply her with a soft bed somewhere near your favorite chair, a good cuddle now and then, and the chance to run and play. Another friendly dog would be considered a real bonus. She will reward the right family with her loyalty, companionship and ability to light up their house with her joy and gratitude.
