My Story

Meet Butch (Joey)! This 4-5 old 10lb boy is looking for his forever family! He came to us from a family in TX that could no longer care for him. He was fully vetted and was treated for Heartworms before arrival in NY. His foster mom says: Joey is a great dog! He is fully crate trained. He sleeps throughout the whole night without any crying or making mistakes in his crate. He has also been successful sleeping in his humans bed and cuddling all night right in their arms. Joey is house broken, he does need to go outside to use the bathroom a few times a day. Joey has also been successful in being home for a few hours not in a crate and not making mistakes. This of course requires his needs to be met of being taking outside to use the bathroom. Joey eats regularly too. He loves his treats and especially boiled chicken. He loves to go on his back and get belly rubs. He enjoys cuddling and is a mush and loves to hover his face into pillows, Blankets and your legs. Although his personality is calm and he is very quiet, he’s funny and likes to play around. He’s the type of dog who could lay on the couch all day or go and enjoy a nice long walk. He is not a typical chihuahua that barks and yaps. He is not even scared of the vacuum! He is in need of being in a home that will provide him a healthy amount of exercise. This helps with his calmness in the home. Joey has been most successful when getting daily walks. He can present as stubborn on the leash and may need some assistance with getting his momentum up, but once he does, he loves enjoying the outdoors walking. He is currently presenting as scared of stairs. However, with guidance/assistance/training he has been successful with going up and down the stairs. Joey is a dog that may need an owner who will put in that extra time and effort to guide him with basic training commands. He has learned how to leash walk, conquer his fear of stairs, crate train, and go near the door for when he needs to go outside. This shows that Joey is capable and ready to learn more with an owner who is going to give him the time he needs. I guess you can teach an older dog new tricks! He has been around other dogs and he is dog friendly! He may struggle more with puppies as many chihuahuas do, as we know how territorial they can be. He has gained a best friend who is a chihuahua female. Both dogs roamed around as if they knew each other forever. There was not one concern. }I would still recommend him warming up to other dogs if he’s going to be around them a lot. Joey seems to be struggling with kids right now. At this time he has only been around 2 of them. It appears that he may be territorial towards his human when the kids are around. Seeing how he is, it seems hopeful with the right about of time, effort, and training he would be able to overcome this. Joey would do best in a home where the sole caregiver is a female. He first appeared scared of males, but was able to warm up. It is clear his person is going to be a female. Overall, Joey is the perfect balance of sweet, cuddly, and playful. He deserves the best home with great attention given to him!" INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
