My Story

9/23/2009-Buddy's journey has finally found it's happy ending!!! Buddy has been adopted!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everybody! My name is Buddy and I am looking for a forever family that is looking for a new family member to bring into their lives. I have had quite the journey recently and while I have met some very nice people, I would love to find out who my actual family is and settle down and love them. Let me tell you how I came to this point-about a year ago, I was picked up running as a stray in Jones County when I was picked up by the dog catcher. While I as at the vet and this wonderful Foundation was looking for a family for me, I was "reclaimed" by a friend of my owner. Well, my owner decided he didn't want me anymore and left me with the friend. I could not belive what happened to me next, they actually chained me outside and that is where I was living!! I had never been so scared and sad!! I had no shelter, no companionship, rarely was there water and food and I was treated like I didn't matter!! Than one day, the wonderful volunteers of AWF saw that I was there and what was happening to me (I like to think of this as the best day of my life) and they came and rescued me, along with almost 20+ dogs, 5+ cats and 4 ferrets, that were also very sad and scared!! Well, AWF found me a foster home where I have been for a few months. At that foster home, I found that when I had some spare time on my hands and I was left outside alone, I could get under their fence and I loved to go explore the neighborhood. It was explained to me that doing that is not such a good idea because I could have been hurt or hit by a car or taken by not so nice people! Gosh, I never stopped to think of the risks of meeting neighbors without my guardians. I still have the friendly urge to go meet people, so if you adopt me, you must have a secure fenced in yard. So, I had to leave that home and noone could take me in at that time, so I had to go stay at the vet clinc. While I loved the people at the Anamosa Vet Clinic (they were SO nice) I wanted to be at home with a family so I could go to sleep with them and wake up in the morning to see their smiling faces. Well, a fabulous family has taken me in now, but they keep talking about a big trip they have coming up and that they are so sorry that I can't stay there for much longer. Sooo, now the search is on and time is getting short-I must find my forever, loving family and I must find them very soon!! Let me tell you the facts as I understand them-I am probably an Alaskan Malamute/Norweigian Elkhound mix and am approx. 7 years old and weigh 80 lbs. I am a very happy boy and absolutely adore life and everything about it! I am a very mellow guy and the new family tells me that I am so easy to take care of. I absolutely LOVE humans and I am happiest when I can be in the house with them (I do not like to be left outside and when I'm there, I want my humans to be with me)!! I am housebroken and very well trained (well, actually I've trained the humans to obey me when I sit, shake and stay). I don't feel a need to be on your furniture and I'm too proud to beg in the kitchen. I'm a bit slow to get going in the morning, but I think that should be understandable because I watch the humans have to drink this smelly stuff in the morings to get going too. While I love people more than life itself, I would do best w/ older children or children with dog experience, because of my size and needs. So, to sum it up, I am just the most amazing big boy who loves to love and am looking for a family who will love to love me!! I want to make sure this is finally the family that I have been praying for all my life-I want to settle down with them and live out the rest of my life with that amazing family! My requests? I would love a nice pet bed, a few fun toys, lots of kisses and hugs, a fenced in yard and basically someone who understands my size and needs and wants to love me forever!! If you are interested in giving this beautiful boy a loving home to live out the rest of his years, please contact Nancy at [email protected] or 563-826-2456. My adoption fee is on a sliding scale of $90 to $150.
