My Story

Buddy was surrendered to a shelter near the NC coast during the pandemic. His advanced age and health status (a painful ear infection and half-bald from a long term flea allergy) made him virtually un-adoptable. But shelter staff had lost one of their own to Covid the day Buddy arrived, and something shifted in the hearts of those on duty. Buddy became Shelter Mascot. He spent days in the office and nights in the playroom, enjoyed pizza with the team for lunch, and accompanied officers on calls. 8 months of medical baths and ear treatments along with systemic and topical medication had Buddy’s ears almost healed and his coat restored, when a new Director revised policies. CBCR got a call saying a senior Border Collie needed rescue. Won over by his “old man cute puppy face” (as a vet tech described it) we set up a relay to get Buddy to Pittsboro, where he has been charming neighbors and family ever since. Buddy is believed to now be 12 yrs. old. He is house-trained, excellent on leash (a 3 year old can walk him), good with other dogs, fine with cats, loves people of all ages, especially children, enjoys car rides, and tolerates thunder and fireworks. He has a slight limp from an old cruciate ligament injury but does well on pain meds. He is satisfied by a half-mile walk per day and, although he rests a lot, his preference would be to do that near young children at play or, second best, at the feet of his guardians. He was raised with children in his original family and seems to miss them, as well as, however odd this may sound, his ever-entertaining and nurturing life in the Animal Shelter. If you can offer Buddy a relaxing yet entertaining life in with daily walks, time with children, and an occasional car ride, you’ll be rewarded by a loyal, affectionate companion. Fenced yard is a must.
