My Story

**Courtesy Posting** Bruce is a 2 ½ year old blue Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He is very active and high energy: he gets 1 or 2 – 20 minute runs a day and he behaves best with 2 runs. If you are not active, this is not the dog for you. He get's neurotic when he doesn't get the right amount of exercise. Bruce runs next to my husband while he rides his bike. Bruce is good and stays next to us when we are running or riding our bikes, but he has a hard time just walking next to us. We use the gentle leader, which he hates, but he will let us put it on without a fight and it works better than a choke chain.

He loves to be with his family. Bruce is great with people; he loves adults, but he is cautious with kids. He has spent a little time with kids and has been great, but it makes him nervous when they get too excited.

Bruce’s dog-social ability varies: he loves our other dog, Subie, and he is great with visiting dogs. I have video of Bruce and Subie playing and he is very careful and gentle with her. He is not good with, and will attack, dogs outside "his" house. Bruce is not a dog-park dog. He is aggressive to any dog he feels threatened by. Bruce hasn't spent any time with cats as long as I've had him. He would probably be fine. He is great when someone calmly but firmly declares that they are the boss (which cat's are usually good at doing)

Bruce loves to play catch. Any ball or Frisbee is good, but tennis balls are his favorite, however he tries to eat them. He is very smart and loves to learn new tricks. He will do anything for a (wheat free) treat. He can sit, lie down ("DOWN"), die ("BANG"), stand at my left side ("BY MY SIDE"), back up, shake hands, and cuddle.

Bruce is very well behaved in the house. He is housebroken and will scratch at the door when he has to go. He will wait patiently (whines a little) for food until he is given the go-ahead to eat as well as for going outside: I can open the door and tell him to wait and he won't go until I say "OK". He sleeps on the couch. I haven't had very good luck with dog beds. He usually eats them. He is great with house guests: he doesn't jump up. He is a good protector. He doesn't bark at our mailman; we took the time to introduce them. He will usually only bark if he doesn't know who is at the door or who is passing by. If the person handling Bruce is angry or mean he will not behave and will fight back; he will not take abuse. If a person is nervous or unsure, he will rebel and simply not listen at all.
