My Story

Sad news: Brandy went to the rainbow bridge on August 16th. Brandy became ill, the vet ran several tests and did xrays. Brandy had liver cancer and there was nothing more we could do for her except be with her when she left this earth. We take comfort knowing that Brandy spent the last 3 months of her life happy and comfortable, and receiving the vet care she deserved.

Almost Home received an urgent call on May 28th about 2 dogs needing immediate rescue. The story is a long one, but if not rescued immediately they would be shot! Almost Home went to visit the dogs and immediately took them into care. Brandy is a bichon and was born with a defect where her back leg is stiff; it does not bend like it should so she walks with a stiff leg. She can walk, but not like she should be able to. She was born in a nearby puppy mill and given away at 8 weeks old since she had problems with her legs. But, this problem does not hurt or slow Brandy down!

Brandy is 12-13 years old---please consider her though! She has had a hard life, but is so very sweet and appreciative of all we do for her. She is housebroken and gets along with all the dogs in foster care. Brandy had pyometra, a condition dogs get if not spayed (Another reason to spay your dog). Her uterus was full of infection that surely would have killed her soon. Brandy also has mammory tumors, but our vets advice was to not remove them. We spayed Brandy, cleaned her teeth (she lost 3 teeth), updated her shots, heartworm tested (negative) and wormed her. She is now on frontline and heartguard. Aunt Sandy bought Brandy a large container of Nupro, a wonderful vitamin supplement to help build Brandy up. Brandy is very happy in foster care and will be a great companion for someone! No small children, please.

Please consider giving Brandy a retirement home. She may have a few months or a few years to live, she just wants a warm, comfortable home with good food and lots of love.
