My Story

Bo is a year old in these pictures taken April 11, 2009 at our partner shelter in Arkansas. He is one of the happiest and friendliest dogs the shelter volunteers have ever met. And he is a very handsome boy too. Bo and his older sister, Peaches, came into the shelter when his owners lost their home and had to move to a place that did not have a fenced in yard.

Because Bo is still a pup that likes to run and play, they didn't leave him in the house much and instead kept him on a short chain in the yard. The house wasn't as large as their old place.

Bo adjusts well to any situation quickly we have found. He went from his owner's home, to a foster home for a few days. Then due to the foster dad's health issue (a bad back), Bo ended up back at the shelter.. Through it all, he stayed a happy go lucky boy. Bo needs some work on a leash as he is strong and doesn't know it. We know that he will learn quickly because he is such a smart boy and wants to please so much. The foster dad had other dogs and cats, all of which Bo got along with. In the shelter, Bo has been playing with Oakley, a Great Pyrenees mix, and Hawkeye, a Basset. They have such a great time playing and running in the yard.

While Bo is good with children, parents will need to make sure he doesn't knock them down. Bo is still in the awkward stage of puppyism and still needs to work on some manners. Overall, everyone who has met Bo, LOVES him.

He tested NEGATIVE for Heartworms/Lyme/Ehrlichia and weighed 60 pounds at the vet when he went in to get neutered on 4/20.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $300 for dogs up to 6 months of age, $250 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $200 for dogs 5 years and older. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
