My Story

Blueberry is a 3 yr old, blue, standard poodle who was rescued from deplorable conditions. She was so matted that she couldn't see where she was going. It took me 2 days of clipping to get the mats off and she was soaked in urine up to her elbows. In the 7 yrs of rescuing dogs, I have never seen a dog in this awful condition. Blueberry is now shaved and showered and learning how to go potty outside. This girl is very sweet and will play with other dogs and toys, surprisingly. Blueberry licked my hand when I covered her with a blanket, so I know she is grateful to be in my home and not in her previous place. Blueberry is doing great with her house breaking and will be ready to go by the week end. She is smart and is learning the routine at my house quickly. She loves to be outside with the great weather. If you think Blueberry is a good fit for your family, please call Debbie at 740-610-8729, after 3pm, please or anytime on the week ends. This is truly a nice dog. She is spayed, has all of her shots, and has been wormed. We require a fenced yard if there are kids under the age of 12 in the home.

Adopting a dog that has been moved from a home to a shelter and then to a rescue is not for everyone. It takes time and patience to make that dog feel at home in his new environment. It takes at least 1 week and usually up to a month for a dog to acclimate to your schedule and home. An animal shelter is the most stressful place for a dog to be, with other dogs barking and not knowing what is happening around them. Some dogs come to their new home scared and timid. They will sometimes take several days before they start eating and have anything to do with the new adopters.

It's not easy rescuing a dog. It takes patience and time and LOVE. These dogs need love and understanding, not another rejection.
