Blu - Loyal & Sweet Velvet Hunk

Blu is about 5 years old and a purebred Cane Corso mastiff. He's about medium sized for his breed at around 95 lbs and he's not going to get any larger. Blu was surrendered to a kill shelter in California because he was left in the yard all the time and kept "getting out." He has good points and challenging points. Great points include that he's super sweet, loves to cuddle, loves to meet new people, and is good with cats. He's crate trained, listens pretty well, knows basic commands, and is pretty quiet. He feels like velvet. Challenging points: Blu was probably mistreated by small children in the past and they make him nervous, particularly if they're brandishing large toys or riding on vehicles. While I don't worry about him around my friends' dogs in a controlled environment and he's very rarely leash reactive, he started to play rough with other dogs at the off-leash dog park and scaring the daylights out of them, so he doesn't get to go there anymore. Finally, he takes about 10 seconds to quietly sniff someone when meeting them...but then decides he wants to play and jumps up and kisses/mouths, which is can be pretty intimidating from a dog his size. What kind of home does Blu need? He's a moderate energy dog and needs to run and get walks every day, but not as much as e.g. a herding breed or retriever. Blu will need training at a place that knows what they are doing, not just the basic sit/heel/stay. He will not respond well at all to aversion or "balance" training. He needs a home that will give him the best vet care and feed him the best diet. And a home that has enough time for him and that will love him to bits.
