My Story

Along with his brothers Ajax and Zephyr and his mama Yeva, six-month-old Blizzard was pulled from a North Carolina shelter in July, on the same day the four Husky mixes had been scheduled to be euthanized for lack of shelter space. The pups were all underweight and infested with ticks and two types of worms. In addition, they were clearly undersocialized and afraid of people, although they all love the company of other dogs.

Since then, the pups have all made remarkable progress in learning what it is to be a house dog. Blizzard is the alpha of the three pups; he thinks he is a big dog. He follows around his foster parents' two Huskies and tries to taunt them into playing with him. He does the same with his foster mom: play-bowing, barking, and dancing in place, just dying for someone to take the bait!

Blizzard has gotten very good at walking on leash, and has made progress with being housebroken. He's learning to behave in his crate, although if he can find a way out of it he'll do it! He's appointed himself the guard dog of the house: he's the first to stand up straight and give off a 'big dog' bark when he hears a funny noise. He likes to ride up on the back dash of his foster mom's car to keep an eye on everything.

At his last vet visit, Blizzard weighed 29 pounds. We're not sure what he's mixed with, but there's some kind of little dog in there, and he won't get much bigger, although he will continue to fill out.

Blizzard needs a home where the biggest threat he'll ever have to defend against will be the squirrels in the yard. Because the first six months of his life were so unhappy, he's slow to trust new people, but once he figures out that you're willing to play with him and love him, he'll be your buddy for life.

All of our dogs are housebroken, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and crate trained (or working on it!) They are living in homes with foster families, not in a shelter or kennel.
