Blaze

In January 2023, Blaze was rescued from an abandoned burned-down house in Buffalo. Whether he previously lived there or moved in as a stray, is unknown. Kind neighbors would check on him and eventually QCP was contacted by a rescue affiliate to help. It was immediately clear he was deaf — but likely from trauma rather than genetics. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an available foster at the time. Sadly, Blaze spent the next 11 months in boarding until a foster home welcomed him. In just three months, his foster family has watched Blaze blossom from being fearful to confident and playful. Blaze LOVES quietly watching the world go by out his bedroom window, playing with stuffed animals, and snuggling under a blanket with people. He enjoys going for car rides and sniffari walks. After which, he will promptly pass out for hours! At night, he gets tucked into his bed and requests to be fully covered by a blanket. And, yes, it’s freaking adorable! Blaze would do best in a home without small children; because of his history and deafness, we don’t want him to be accidentally startled – especially if he’s asleep. He currently lives with a 12-year-old and another dog. He is generally unbothered by other dogs but seems to do best with laid-back ones. He has not been cat-tested. Additionally, Blaze about 4 yrs old, and is fully house- and crate-trained. He quickly learned how to walk well on a leash. He’s truly such an easy and funny little boy once you’ve earned his trust! Black and special needs dogs tend to be overlooked, but we know Blaze’s forever home is out there. He can’t wait to sleep in bed all night long with his person or people!
