My Story

******************************************************************* THIS DUDE IS SUPER CHILL (and also very playful). ******************************************************************* Blackie had been a homeless pup in an area where strays are very common. A kind person had been feeding him and other pups for awhile. But when a serious storm came in, Blackie came running seeking shelter under his house. The Good Samaritan knew Blackie, and could not stand him being outside in the scary wet storm, and brought him in. Since then (3-4 months ago), Blackie has been in his care. He comes in at night (crate-trained), and then hangs out in the backyard during the day. Fortunately for Blackie, It's been winter here in TX, which means the weather is comfortable. However, we are moving into spring now, which essentially means temperatures at 80+ degrees, and soon thereafter into summer with 90-100 degree temps. We would love to get him into his own air-conditioned home before the sizzling heat arrives, (and as soon as someone amazing completes an application for him - HINT HINT). As mentioned, Blackie primarily stays outside in the yard during the day. This is not ideal. However, it does keep him safe from the streets, and he knows he is safe, fed and loved. He is conscious of his gratitude and does not dig or attempt to escape the yard. He is a nice and easy boy to have around. Blackie is about 1 and a half years old, and even at about 65 lbs., he does not appear that big. He loves to eat, loves chew toys, and has a beautiful black coat (pretty impressive for a pup who is out a lot). Blackie also has a serious scar on his foot that has healed. We do not know what happened, so who knows what he has been through. Blackie gets along fine with other dogs, and is both cat & chihuahua-neutral. In general, he seems fine with other dogs, large and small. There has however been some resource guarding with food and toys amongst the bigger dogs, so feeding them separately, and managing toys has been the solution. This boy is SUPER PLAYFUL & enjoys a good wrestle. The 2 other big dogs get tired of playing with him, because he is so playful! In other words, he is an interesting mix of chill & play. In general, Blackie is a fairly quiet pup (not a lot of barking). He is a great watchdog though, and will bark if there seems to be any suspicious sounds or movement. And as far as walks, and getting out and about, Blackie does enjoy going out on walks, and walks well on the leash. If you would like a loyal companion in your life, Blackie would be honored to be that pup. He truly would just be happy having a home and someone who cares about him.
