My Story

BJ came to us when he was about 6 - 8 weeks old in 2003. He is approximately 3 1/2 years old in these pictures taken August 29, 2007. BJ used to be very enthusiastic when people would visit him and loved to play with people. The young people who used to volunteer at the shelter enjoyed playing with him. Now BJ needs a bit of time to get used to you before he will play. Sadly, BJ has been at the shelter so long without a lot of hands on that he is starting to withdraw. If you can coax him out of his dog house to get a leash on him, he does pretty well on a leash. He does enjoy life though and gets along with his kennel mate, Truffles, and they love to run around the yard and play.

BJ desperately needs a foster home or an adopter who is willing to teach him how to trust and live a real dog's life.

June 2007 - UPDATE:
BJ and Truffles were moved from out under the barn area into an area more up front of the shelter. We have noticed the last few weeks that both of them have started to come out of their shell. They are really enjoying having more sunshine and a bigger yard to run in.

August 27, 2007 - UPDATE:
BJ went to the vet today and was very calm and loving while he was there. The volunteer sat on the floor with him and he decided that he wanted to be a 47 pound lap baby and give gentle kisses. BJ just ate up all of the attention and didn't give the vet any trouble while he was getting his shots and check up. The volunteer did have a great deal of trouble getting him into a travel kennel to bring him to the vet though. He just did not want to go in and was afraid of the kennel. Turning the kennel up on its end and putting BJ in feet first, then quickly shutting the door did the trick.

The volunteers at LP believe that BJ will be just a SUPER GREAT DOG for anyone willing to give him the time to get to know them and his surroundings. All he really wants is love.

We do not know if he is housetrained, likes cats, or if he would be good with children under 10 (we rarely get children younger than 10 at the shelter). Like 99% of the animals at the shelter, he was picked up as a stray off the street.
