Birch

Meet Birch, a five and a half year old male Pit Bull mix. Birch got his name because he was dumped at the shelter location on Birchfield road. When staff was out feeding the feral lot cats, Birch limped right up for pets. He didn't seem to mind the cats and showed zero interest in chasing them at that time. Once Birch got some attention he followed shelter staff straight in the back door. Birch is a very handsome boy with a solid 65 pound build. His history is unknown but he was limping when he was found d and has a scar on one leg too. Birch is a happy boy and very strong on the leash so leash manners would be good for him to learn. He is extremely food motivated and training should be pretty easy because of it, he already knows "sit", "shake", and "down". Birch has been with us since October 2023 so when he first gets out he has a good amount of energy, but give him a 5-10 minute walk and he will settle in for some good pets and belly rubs. Birch loves human attention and is hoping to find a home to call his own that has lots of love and treats! While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known.
