My Story

1. BHRR's Arlo - Male Harlequin Great Dane, 8 years old, Neutered, Housetrained, utd on shots and on HW preventative. Arlo was Owner Surrendered to us with his friend Samson George due to their owner's health. Arlo does have a lump that we will be looking into when he goes to the vet on October 25th. Arlo has an energy level that could rival a dog half his age. HE loves to walk and run and he does not have any stiffness or problems with ROM or flexibility. He is very friendly, social and kind. He will also be getting a much needed manicure plus pedicure. I am still getting to know Arlo for he really likes his time playing and running free in the fields than I get my turn to love on him!!! He is a very sweet boy and does need some more leash manners for when he wants to see someone or something, he develops the strength of HERCULES as pulls you along!!! If you are firm with him, he will settle down into more gentlemanly manners. More information and pictures to follow!!! Arlo and Samson George have come to us from New York. Update November 1st, 2005: Arlo ended up going to the vet tonight Arlo had a manicure, pedicure, HW test and a thorough exam tonight. We did a needle aspirate on the lump and it is just 'fat' cells. He also has a benign growth on his one upper gumline that at this time is not causing him any discomfort. His heart, lungs and eyes are in excellent shape. His back molars are worn down indicating that despite his energy and body condition; he is an older Dane! :) He weighs 53.2 kg at this time. Arlo still needs to be microchipped as things were were really busy at the Hospital tonight. Update November 6th, 2005: Arlo is still a food hound! He loves to eat and then try to eat more! We have found him to be a bit handshy and he is very smart. He has great muscle tone and is learning to recall beautifully. He is a really great looking boy! His HW test was negative and he is now on Sentinel. Please familiarize yourself with our adoptions processes before contacting us. You can visit our website of www.birchhaven.org for more information.Update January 1st, 2006: Arlo is doing great! He has discovered the bed and has made himself quite the 'king'! He is a very affectionate boy and is still a food hound!
