My Story

Little red Berry is a puppymill rescue. She's roughly 3 years old. For people familiar with the life of a puppymill breeder dog, you know to expect timidity, and often fear of such new things as touching grass. Having lived in cages most of their lives, they are often harder to house train. They have not learned to read the body language of humans and don't always know what to expect from them. They require patience, lots of loving and sometimes creative behavior modification.

Somehow Berry escaped the timidity. She is, in fact, a nosy little thing that loves to explore. She enjoys sitting in laps, but also likes a good game of tag. She lived for a few days in a foster home where she quickly took over, loved the cats, enjoyed the dogs and especially enjoyed carrying around a Swiffer duster. She announces when she has to go outside (once you learn her body language) but needs a consistent schedule and lots of patience before she could be considered house trained.

She came to us carrying a dead pup and having an infected uterus. After she was spayed she became really depressed, apparently mourning the dead pup. She adopted a little stuffed animal named "Alien" and became really protective of it. The "puppy" is about a month old now, and she is allowing it more freedom. But at least for now, she still needs Alien.

The cost of spaying/neutering and vaccinations, even rabies, are included in the adoption fee. All dogs have been tested heartworm negative. All of the animals have also been micro-chipped. The Quincy Humane Society is located on the Illinois border roughly 20 miles north of Hannibal, MO . While we will adopt animals to other states we will never ship an animal or allow an animal to be shipped. All adopters must meet the potential pet in person before the adoption is finalized. If for some reason you are not able to keep the animal, it will be returned to the Quincy Humane Society at the adopters expense. Check out our website www.quincyhumanesociety.org for more info.
