My Story

Important Note: Benny would be best suited in a home with a singe individual due to his tendency to resource guard his human. Shelter staff is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding resource guarding. Meet Benito (Benny)! Is the target dog mascot missing? Maybe. Yet another dog surrendered to us do to inability to find appropriate housing with him. Benny is a good boy, but is definitely struggling in the kennel setting. As a dog that has always been in a home, and after his former owner trying to rehome him herself and having him returned to her only to come to the shelter the same day, Benny is confused. He doesn't get any attention as he comes across as very upset and skittish in his kennel...because he is. We believe that Benny would do well in a home with someone who is willing to take the time to let him decompress and feel safe. Benny needs a slow introduction to strangers, and some confidence building but his former owner describes him as " a lazy dog that loves to cuddle, but will run and play outside when appropriate" he also allowed her 5yo daughter to climb all over him. He can become protective over the children and women in his life so will need to be shown proper boundaries. He has not ever bitten anyone, and shows his fear or dislike by barking. Benny is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and has a microchip. He is fully house trained, and was left loose in his former home for 6-8 hours at a time with no consequences. He has been crate trained as well, and has never escaped confinement in his yard. Schedule a meet and greet to see Benny today and lets get him a safe forever home!
