My Story

Meet Belonia, the sweet and gentle couch potato just bursting with love to share! Female | Shepherd mix | 35lbs | 2 years old | Neutered/Spayed, UTD on shots | Good with dogs and kids Rescued from Mexico Currently being fostered in Toronto, ON Background : Bolonia along with her four sisters was abandoned outside of the shelter in Mexico. They were malnourished and full of fleas and parasites. The shelter took them in, treated and cared for them until they were ready to be adopted, which is when The DogGo Project helped Belonia take her freedom flight to Canada. Personality: - Belonia is a calm, quiet, and sweet girl who can be a bit nervous in new settings and around new people and men but with the right introduction warms up quickly. - She loves sitting beside someone on the couch and getting pets and could easily be described as a couch potato. - She finds comfort in the presence of other dogs, particularly her foster sister, and she will seek out pets from others when she sees her sister is receiving them. - Belonia has medium energy levels but spends most of her day lounging on the couch, occasionally playing with toys. She gets excited to see her foster mom in the morning and gets the occasional burst of energy, doing zoomies around the yard! Ideal Home: - Belonia would thrive in a home that can provide her with structure and routine will be best to help her gain confidence and provide her with ongoing training - A home with access to a yard where she can run around and explore would be ideal but she would also do fine in a condo in a quieter neighbourhood as she can be a bit overwhelmed by the big city sounds. - Belonia would be fine in a home with older, dog savvy children who will respect her boundaries Training/Activity: - Belonia is house trained and communicates her need to go outside by whining near the door, showing her understanding of potty training. - She has impressive loose leash skills and has gained so much confidence on her walks, evening enjoying exploring new areas! She's even become so comfortable outside she will have a zoomie session in the park or lay down to relax and watch the world go by after her walk. - She is a bit nervous around men so introductions need to be slow and with patience so she can gain trust at her own pace. - She settles down quickly in her crate, snuggling up in her blanket and toy for comfort. - Belonia has learned so much since being in foster care and responds to "Bella" and has learned commands like 'sit' and 'lay down'. - One of Belonia’s favourite past times is to shred things, her stuffies, paper, or cardboard - she’s not picky! Summary: Belonia has made wonderful strides since arriving in Canada and her confidence has grown immensely! Her leash manners are unmatched and she loves a good nap after a little zoomie session. Patience and routine has helped her build trust and confidence every day! She’s most happy when she gets to lay next to her favourite person on the couch and get pets and have a good shredding session with one of her toys. Belonia is such a happy, sweet and gentle girl who will add so much joy to your life! **NOTE** All adoption applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada to be considered.
