My Story

BAXTER'S ADOPTION IS NOW PENDING! BAXTER MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE NOW BUT "PALOMA" A FEMALE 2 YEAR OLD WHITE POODLE MIX (15 LBS) IS. SHE IS NOT YET ON PETFINDER, SO BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO APPLY FOR HER! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR POLAMA GO HERE - http://foreverhomek9rescue.org/adoption-application/ What do you get when you cross a ShihTzu with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel? You get BAXTER, and a cuter, sweeter CavaTzu there never was! Baxter is 2 YO (DOB July 14, 2021) and came into rescue after his mama could no longer care for him. He is a little (15 lb.) lovebug! Not an aggressive bone in his handsome self, Baxter is on the timid end of the spectrum and will most definitely need a securely fenced yard to keep him safe when he’s outside. We’d also want him to have another sweet dog in the household to keep him company and perhaps to teach him how to enjoy playing! And we’d also prefer that any children in the home are older, just because Baxter is a small and timid boy. Baxter is friendly with children, cats, and other dogs. He definitely wants to please, so although he doesn’t know any commands yet, he will be easy to train. He does know his inside manners and has been very tidy in his foster home. He wasn’t familiar with car rides until he came into foster care, but now he rests comfortably on a lap, preferring to snuggle than to look out the window. He is not a toy-boy. He does have a few, but he seems to prefer to be close to, and keep an eye on, his humans. Can’t let them get too far away! Baxter has gotten a 5-star “personality review” from his veterinarian and is in excellent health. He is neutered and microchipped. He is also current on his rabies and DHP/Parvo vaccines, and he tested negative for heartworms. He is on heartworm prevention. Baxter’s adoption fee is $ 450.00. Please note that if you are unable to adopt Baxter but would like to help cover any vetting expenses by donating through the Petfinder Foundation while he is waiting to find his new family, please click the “Sponsor” bar in the purple box on the right side of this page. Thank you so much for supporting him! Also, when adopting or purchasing a dog, please consider the care and grooming involved with long-haired breeds such as Baxter. They are considered "high maintenance" because they do require frequent brushing, as well as regular trips to the groomer. If this doesn’t fit into your lifestyle or budget, then a short-haired breed may be a better choice for you. Forever Home Canine Rescue offers a three-week trial period with all of our adoptions, just to be sure that the pet is a good match for the adopting family. The fee is refunded if the adoption does not work out within the trial period. We want to be sure that each of our pets will have the perfect "forever" home! Forever Home Canine Rescue adopts out-of-state, but we never ship or transport our pets. An approved adopter must come to North Carolina to meet their new canine companion and then take him/her back home with them. We would like to thank Melanie Pearson for these charming photos of Baxter. Melanie offered her services to help him find a wonderful forever home. If you would like to contact Melanie for any photography needs, check out her website at melaniepearsonphotography.com. She is based in the Tryon area and travels to Huntersville.
