My Story

Please do not apply for this pet unless you are able to adopt it within 3 days of your online application being submitted and approved by Animal Alliance. We are unable to "Hold" pets.

BAXTER UPDATE: This update is written by BAXTER'S foster mother. "BAXTER should not be with older male dogs. He is great with female and younger dogs. He is very very gentle with people. He is a follower and loves to be with people all day. He plops down and shows his belly as soon as you walk in the room and considering his horrible past its very sweet. He really enjoys walks, he's not so good on a leash. He requires very low maintenance, just love." BAXTER: This blighted canine is a 10 year old and 80 pound Shar Pei mix that was found tied to a tree. When the Animal Cruelty police released him he was near death from trying to get loose. BAXTER had been confined without food or water on a scorching hot day that was followed by torrential rains. He definitely did not know the good life. BAXTER was determined to have lived his pervious life exploited as a fighting dog. The history of this life is seen on his face with only one good eye and a mangled ear. BAXTER wears the badge of abuse and animal cruelty yet he would not be offered for adoption if we did not think he would be an appropriate pet for the right person (s). His heart is soft and enjoys being with people. This demoralized pugilist is a sweet dog that just craves positive attention. In his first foster placement BAXTER was good with a mother and her puppies where he quickly assumed the paternal role. However, Animal Alliance believes BAXTER would do best as an only dog because of his history. This biographer once worked in an area where dogfights were part of the scenery. Oftentimes in the morning I would hear the noises of dogs fighting and horrific people cheering them on. Dead puppies and the walking wounded showed up on our doorstep daily. Having had this experience drew me to animal rescue. I have also known dogs like BAXTER that were adopted and gave a sigh of relief knowing life could now be lived in peace. BAXTER needs a special person who will be committed to providing him with kind discipline, love, and devoted attention. If you are looking for a mitzvah embodied in a dog and are an experienced dog owner think of BAXTER please. This somewhat unsightly specimen with a soft heart can be your precious pet and be home at last by filling out the Animal Alliance online application.

This pet is spayed or neutered in accordance with our strict policy wherein all animals are altered prior to adoption. This pet is dewormed, current on vaccines, and started on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.

Animal Alliance is not a shelter where all the animals are housed in one location. Animal Alliance is a foster care network and animals are housed in many different locations. If you are interested in adopting a pet, please apply using the online application; applicants who call our phone line will hear a recorded voicemail with this identical message. We adopt many animals each week and meet prospective adopters at various locations so they can meet the animals they are interested in.

Please see the Animal Alliance Homepage for adoption details.
