My Story

My name is Baxter. My original name was Butler but my foster mom said I'm just way too goofy to have such a sophisticated name. I hope that's a compliment!! I'm a three year old neutered (ouch!) blue Great Dane with really cool white markings. Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love took me in when my family could no longer care for me. I've been with my foster mom for over a week now and she says I'm the perfect gentleman! I love to cuddle and follow her around the house. I'd sleep in her bed if she let me! I'm completely house trained and crate trained but I'm also okay with free run of the house as long as there isn't any food on the counters. I'm not too bad on a leash but I do pull some when I get excited...I just can't help it!! Oh, and I know sit too!!! Right now I'm living with two other Great Danes, a Jack Russell and a Rat Terrier and I love them all. My best friend here is the female Great Dane. She's SO much fun to play with!! I also like to grunt and wag my tail at my Rat Terrier brother to try to get him to play but he's old and never plays back. My foster mom also took me to visit with her dad's mean cat. Even though he was hissing at me and saying nasty things, I just ignored him...sticks and stones! One thing I'm not too crazy about is large intact males. Just don't like 'em! I also don't like for my foster sister to come up to my crate while I'm eating. She's a PIG!! I'm nice to her after my foster mom tells me to be good though. I don't care if she or my other foster brothers/sisters come around when I have a treat or a bone. I guess I just like my doggie food! The place I'm staying at now is nice and lots of fun but I'd really like to find a family to call my own. Please contact my Great Dane Friends if you think you'd like me to come live with you! Baxter's adoption fee is $300

UPDATE 8/25/09 - Baxter was adopted back in February but is now back in rescue due to no fault of his own. Turns out his dane sister didn't like having a big brother and they got into fights often. Even though he's a little scarred up from the fights, he still has the sweetest personality ever! He loves his cuddle time with his humans and loves to go on walks. He's in a foster home with the same dogs he was with before and not much has changed. He still doesn't like his piggy foster sister to approach his crate while he's eating but he'd done fine with bones outside of the crate. He loves to play with his submissive dane foster sister but can be a little iffy with the dominant male dane in the house now so he'd do best, if being placed with a larger dog, to be placed with a submissive male or female. He's great with little dogs (also lives with a dominant female jack russell) and he's fine with cats. He's been around kids in small doses and has done fine but we're not sure how he would do with them 24/7. He does not like to have his ears/tail tugged on so it'd probably be best if he was placed in a home with older kids or no kids. Baxter is still being evaluated at his foster home since his return. Overall, Baxter is a fantastic and loyal boy who deserves to be spoiled completely rotten!!
