Searching for a Foster or Adopter Baxter’s story is heartbreaking. He showed up at the shelter as an emaciated stray fearful of everything but wanting love. It was clear he had a hard past. He then escaped the shelter and ran back home to his previous owner. When he got there, they just left him out and ignored him. He stayed around for days hoping they would let him back in. Instead, he was left to live on the street where he was then attacked by a group of dogs. A neighbor called and reported an injured stray and poor Baxter was brought back to the shelter. Baxter's previous owners were contacted, and they surrendered him to the shelter. Baxter received the medical care he needed. He then had an adopter who was going to save him from euthanasia but could not make the deadline, so a volunteer offered to foster for the 3 day gap. Then the potential adopter ended up ghosting him, and a 3 day foster turned into 6.5 months. His foster mom loves him but has many other dogs and could no longer foster him so now he is sitting in boarding, hoping we find a foster or adopter who will give this boy a chance or he will have to return to the shelter where he will be placed on the euthanasia list again. Baxter is a sweet boy who loves people and dogs. He would do well with dog savvy kids. He is not a huge fan of being crated but just sleeps during the day in his foster mom’s house. This boy deserves a home where he can be loved and cared for. He would excel with someone who had time to work on training and showing him the world can be a safe place.
