My Story

Meet Batter! 11-year-old Batter entered the San Diego Humane Society in heartbreaking shape. He was found wandering outside covered in matted fur, plant material, and fleas. His corneas had ruptured, and plant matter was stuck to his eyes. Due to his level of pain, they performed surgery right away to remove both of his eyes. We are so thankful that Batter became a Frosted Face on July 15th. More good news: Batter received a clean bill of health by the Frosted Faces vet staff during his intake exam. They removed his sutures, and his incisions have healed nicely. He's not on any medications at this time. Just a few days after becoming a Frosted Face, Batter was chosen to go on a two-week Frosted Fling! We are happy he is geting extra TLC in the comforts of a home, while we learn more about him. After their first week together, we received a wonderful update from his Fling Mom: "Hold Batter in your arms for just a second and you'll fall in love. This lil' bundle of joy loves human touch and can see into your soul despite the fact that he has no eyes. He will park himself on your chest, put his chin on your shoulder and pass out for a nice nap. He loves sleeping in the bed with us and is content to be carried around in our arms or doggie sling. It took Batter about 5 days to get used to the layout of the house, but he seems to have everything mapped out now. Batter's ears are always up and alert, and he does the cutest little head tilt as he listens to us talk. He responds the most when we call him Buddy. His confidence has grown visibly, and he cues in on the sound of our footsteps and can track us around the house. Batter is friendly with all other dogs and will greet with puppy like enthusiasm. One of his favorite things to do is go on nice slow sniffari at the park. He loves to roll and play in the grass and will listen intently to all passers by.During car rides, which he seems to love, he simply passes out until you get to where you're going. Eating is not something that excites him, and he is a little picky about what goes in his tummy. Occasionally he needs to be hand fed to get him started eating. He knows where the water bowl is, but sometimes he needs a reminder to drink. We've hosted Batter for a week now, and he hasn't had any potty accidents. He tends to hold it until we take him outside. If he appears restless and fidgety, that's the cue he's letting you know he needs to go. It's hard to believe, after going through all that he has, Batter can be so incredibly sweet, but the fact is, he is one of the most loving dogs we've ever met. Selfishly we would love to keep him for our own, but we know someone will find their way to him, and he to them, and he will fill their home with love."
