My Story

Guesstimatd to be 2 - 4 years old, Baby Face is the most wonderful dog that deserves a home and people to call her own. She weighed in at 30 kgs (68 pounds) on November 30th at her spay, but she's not a tall dog. This beautiful girl, along with 2 males; Reaper, Rocky, Dasher and Rudolf and 2 other females; Salt and Betsy (in their own profiles) joined Mattie's Place November 17th when they were transferred into our care from another rescue that was in way over their heads and made many, many, many errors with the dogs in their care. The dogs lived in a structure that had no temperature control, drainage, or acceptable outdoor use space. They spent 24 hours a day kennelled outside of sporadic breaks - but it didn't happen daily or anywhere near often enough. All I can say is I'm so thankful they were transferred into our care so we could give them a bright future. They were covered in urine and feces on intake so they were all professionally groomed and did amazing and were so tolerant! They also required vetting to get their basic needs up to date and then again for spay/neuters and did not give any concern to the manipulations required to complete the tasks. They began in a professional boarding kennel so we could assess them, complete their spay/neuters and give them an opportunity to decompress and the kennel staff have had nothing but glowing reviews. Baby Face has been in a foster home the past 6 months and is doing wonderfully! She is so incredibly grateful to have love and compassion and couch to curl up on. Baby Face is in a foster home with small children, but her foster is a highly experienced dog person and has hard limitations in place with Baby Face and her kids and I'm not sure that would be a reasonable request for a family pet so a home without kids under the age of 12 required. This includes young children that visit often or on a regular basis. It's not to say Baby Face would have issue with kids, but I must remain responsible and ethical in the best interest of everyone involved and place her in an adult only/older kid home. Baby Face is drawn to the young dogs in her foster home and has made some incredible dog friends with the many she lives with. I wouldn't place her in a home with dogs under 40 pounds, but she seems to be fine with smaller dogs that she feels she can be the "top dog" with. Baby Face goes to daycare and is terrific with other dogs she meets and very dog social. There is some resource guarding with food with other dogs, so it's easily managed by feeding her in her crate. She has zero resource guarding with food with humans. Dogs should always be fed separately and it shouldn't be a problem. She does share a water bowl with other dogs, without incident. Baby Face has been a sweet and gentle dog and has not given any indication to vets, groomers, trainers, handlers, kennel attendants or her foster of any outrageous behaviour concerns. Her adoption fee is greatly reduced so her new people can focus funds on giving her the gift of professional training to set her up for future success. Baby Face is an incredibly grateful dog to be receiving the love of humans and is super people social. She's active and has a hard time staying still and just wants to adventure as often as she can. An active family and a home with a large, secured fenced yard would be important for this sweet girl. $99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: blood work / spay/neuter / multiple deworming / flea/tick prevention / dental needs will be assessed at spay/neuter and completed post adoption for grade 3 or higher at the cost of Mattie's Place / food / dishes / leash/martingale collar / toys / poop bags / custom dog tag / treats Out of province adoption considered, as we do have a good support base in Quebec and Newfoundland, but preference is within Ontario. No condominiums (it would not be fair to Baby Face to be put in elevator/stairwell/lobby spaces with other dogs) No cats or minimally cats that can have a separate space An adopter committed to further training with their dog with a professional trainer. FROM HER FOSTER: Baby Face continues to thrive as she navigates learning the way of the world and relearning how to dog. We are up at 6am, let out of crate and outside! Only outside for her business then back in. She hangs out in our living space, with the gazillion other dogs and kids (1 and 3) while I have my cup of tea. Baby likes to try and wrestle with her favorite friend or whoever will give her the time of day to do so. Baby is fed in her crate away from the other dogs. She has some food gaurding only with dogs. Myself or anyone if they absolutely had to could take her bowl away. Monday, Wednesday and Friday Baby attends a basic obedience class with my trainer here on the property. She so desperately wants to please you. Baby Face loves everyone she meets. She's a gentle soul with endless happiness to share with whoever will have it. She has not met a single soul she hasn't liked. Baby is willing to let anybody pet her. And or crawl into your lap if you're watching TV. She is incredibly kind, loving and grateful. Baby Face always has her game face on ready to please. Her obedience is incredible. With a few reminders here and there she's ready to conquer this world with her new forever family. Baby Face would do well with another dog who is submissive but playful. Baby Face does have food guarding issues with other dogs and this is easily remedied by feeding her in her crate for breakfast and dinner. Dog parks are not something Baby Face will enjoy. It is to overstimulating for her with so many dogs. Some stronger female dogs or over excited dogs can set Baby Face off and she may try to fight. Baby Face is great with kids and good with my cats. But if another dog doesn't like cats she joins in the chase. She has a full pack mentality. Thankfully, she's easily corrected and redirected away. She loves toys and chewing on the bull box chews? She has a hardcore love for male dobermans. Baby Face deserves to be loved on and have all the toys she could dream off. ----------------------- To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
