Meet Ashley! Say hello to Ashley, a stunning 2-4 year old merle Great Dane who’s the definition of gentle giant. Ashley's journey has been a tough one until coming into rescue. She was found abandoned and starving in a backyard of an abandoned home in Lake City. It’s clear that Ashley has been a momma dog before, when she came into rescue she had recently birthed a litter. We’re happy to report that Ashey is now spayed and on the mend from a skin infection. Her health status is excellent: she is heartworm negative, spayed, and has had gastropexy surgery to prevent future health issues. Currently, Ashley is being fostered in Lake City, FL, with a family that includes dogs, cats, and children ranging from a 5-month-old baby to an 11-year-old. She adores children and gets along famously with both dogs and cats. Due to her size, she might accidentally bump into smaller kids, so supervision is a good idea. Ashley is potty trained during the day and does well when let out every few hours. However, she still has accidents from time to time at night, which is understandable since she previously lived outside. She is improving though. She walks wonderfully on a leash. There’s nothing rambunctious about her. She is not crate trained in her foster home, but has done well in an octagon dog pen post-surgery. Ashley is a calm, loving, and somewhat lazy girl who loves to snuggle on the couch. She does well when left alone, usually napping, but hasn’t been left entirely alone without other pets. She thrives best with a canine companion or someone who is home frequently. Ashley has great recall, knows basic commands like sit, lay down, and heel, and does not need a fenced yard as she prefers to stay close to her people. However, she is afraid of stairs and won’t use them. Ashley’s favorite activities include cuddling on the couch, playing with other dogs, and getting head rubs. She’s smart and has figured out that the high chair is a source of yummy snacks. She’s sneaky about stealing food, so a watchful eye is needed. Ashley is the sweetest, most loving girl who will make an excellent companion, especially for a first-time Great Dane owner. Her gentle nature and good temperament make her an ideal addition to any loving home. Ready to meet Ashley?
