He’s playful, happy and cute as can be and his favorite thing is to be held. As you can see from his photos, he has a healthy, shiny coat and very attractive black and tan markings.
Arnie loves to sleep under the covers and does not stir once settled. Arnie is house trained and does not need or like a crate. He will not do well in a home where he's expected to spend time crated.
At 6 years old he has many more years to share his fun-loving personality, yet he's mature enough to relax with the family, and he'd make a wonderful little lap dog.
Arnie sits calmly to have his sweater and harness put on for walking and waits by the door without pushing or jumping. He loves toys and going for walks. Arnie is great on leash. Off leash at the park, he comes right away hen called and he loves to have the chance to run and play.
He has been wonderful with his foster mom's cats and her three resident dogs. Arnie does prefer to eat alone and will let furry passersby know if they get too, close although has no problem with giving up his dish for his humans.
Arnie is a great little people dog who wants to be at home with you and follow wherever you go. He will make a great family companion.
Notes from our partner shelter: Arnold entered the shelter from the city kennels on 09/13/2008. He is around 5 years old, weighs appx 12 pounds and is black/white/brown in color. Arnie (as we call him) is still a fun loving guy and needs a good home to go to. This is a house dog!
Due to his small size, Arnold will not be adopted to a family with children under 10 years or age, or to a young individual or couple who plans to have kids in the next 10 years. Small children could inadvertently hurt Arnold. Thank you for your understanding. No exceptions.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.
FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.
CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.
SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.
SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.
HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.
PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
