My Story

Annie & Raja

Annie and Raja are beautiful, gentle, totally sweet tri-colored beagles. The sisters are posted together because they have been together since birth , Sadly, their owner passed away and the family was unable to keep them. This bonded pair plays together and occasionally argue like most sisters. It's all in fun though. Raja is the smaller of the two and more reserved than her larger sister, Annie. They prefer their own company to that of other dogs so would do very well in a home without competition. Both girls are eager to please and are quick learners. They love to cuddle with humans and respond exceptionally well to praise and treats, of course. The family who adopts this pair will have two jewels.

This is what their foster 'parents' have to say:

Some things about Annie and Raja: They LOVE walks. Our walk together is the highlight of their day and they start begging for us to take them as soon as we start getting dressed in the am. Their walks are almost all for some sniffing and exercise. Although Annie occasionally pees, Raja holds everything in until we get home and they go in the backyard. No plastic bag has ever been needed on our travels.

They are both extremely housebroken. Annie is in charge of waking us up in the am when she wants to go out by putting her paws up the side of the bed and whimpering until one of us (generally me) goes into the backyard with them.

Raja sleeps on the couch until Annie has succeeded in getting us outside and then she'll runs to join us in the morning relief. They are both incredibly effective as pre-washers for the dinner plates that go in the dishwasher.

They love to play fight, and it's really fun to watch. Raja is the dominant one, and regularly attacks Annie's ear. At which point Annie attacks Raja's back leg (sometime causing Raja to topple over) and they're off! (They never hurt each other) They love cuddling on the couch with us. Raja has her regular position curled up next to me when I watch movies and paces back and forth until I settle in and she can claim her spot. Annie has been pushed (by Raja) a bit away but still always settles behind my head unless there's another lap available.

They are wonderful with kids and visitors. They get very very gentle when they see a child and go up slowly to get petted. Everyone else is greeted with multiple kisses (will you be my mommy/daddy?) They both always want to be near us - when I'm working on the computer they are both curled up under my chair (or on my feet.) When we are in the kitchen they are curled up on the floor (no surprise there - things tend to drop sometimes.)

They are both really trainable. There are a couple of horses in a corral very near the road that we pass often on our walks, and the girls were both terrified of them at first. We started giving them dog biscuits if they walked by without barking, then we took them closer and gave them dog biscuits if they stayed calm. Now they both insist on going up to the corral, sniffing the horses, then sitting down to get a treat.

The dogs' adoption fees are a minimum $275 donation to help us save more dogs. SoAZBR is an all-volunteer group. One hundred percent of your donation is used for the care and treatment needy beagles. Your donation is 100 percent tax deductible, too.
