My Story

Amy is a gorgeous young purebred Akita who was rescued from Licking County Animal Shelter, by one of our members. Amy was "stumbling" at the shelter and it was clear she had some type of medical issue. Our volunteer generously took Amy for an evaluation by a specialist and it was determined that Amy has a TEMPORARY neurological issue that she will outgrow. Amy is currently at a boarding facility where she is eating great food in an attempt to gain some much needed weight. She is a happy, friendly girl who desperately needs a foster or forever home. There will be more information to follow. UPDATE from rescuer: Amy is about 6 1/2 months old, with a beautiful personality, she introduces herself nicely to other dogs, no matter how excited they are she calmly greets them, because she is boarding, we have been unable to observe how she plays with other dogs. Amy has been taken to Petsmart, the Dr's office, parks and been with me when running errands, where she has behaved beautifully, she loves everyone and will just cuddle up to them to be petted. She loves riding in the car, getting treats, taking walks, very rarely barks and seems to be housetrained. Due to her Neurological condition she does stumble or fall, this does not phase her a bit she gets right back, and in the two weeks since her diagnosis everyone has seen improvement in her. Amy is also extremely smart, she stumbled coming off the step at the doctors office, the next time she came down the step she was more cautious and did not stumble, she learned sit in about 15 minutes and rarely needs to be told not to do something twice. Amy has been around cats and seems to ignore them, and has behaved well when children have petted her, but should always be supervised when around both, nor can she be off leash, due to her breed. Please read the info on Akita's here http://www.akitarescue.com/Facts%20about%20Akitas.htm, to better understand what adding an Akita to you family means. If you wish to take on the responsibility of having Amy join your family, you will have the sweetest, most beautiful young lady, I have ever been fortunate enough to meet.
