My Story

Ally was rescued from an Appalachian West Virginia pound, where she had been dumped with her two gorgeous tricolored daughters. The two daughters were adopted by one family so that they could stay together, but the new family was not interested in adopting their 2 year young mom. At 38 lbs. on 3/16/04 (almost a week after being pulled out of the pound), Ally probably was about 5-8 lbs. underweight. Ally has been heartworm tested, started on heartworm preventative, vaccinated and spayed. It is a wonder that she did not test positive for heartworms, as it is doubtful that the calloused owner who abandoned her and her girls ever afforded any of them the safety precaution of heartworm protection in this Appalachian "valley of heartworms." Her foster mom believes her to be a purebred English Setter but has labeled her as a mix in order to err on the side of caution rather than inadvertently mislead anyone. Although Ally is a very pretty girl, made even more attractive by her one blue and one brown eye, Ally's greatest beauty is her personality. When she "smiles" at you, she has a lopsided grin which seems to say "I know something that you don't." And she does her best to talk to you. "Wer, wer, wer" with her mouth closed and looking like a bunch of marbles are jumping around in her mouth. When she first came out of the shelter, she was stir crazy--running around in circles and panting constantly--probably because she was caged all the time even before being dumped in the pound by her owner. But, over a period of 2 weeks, she calmed down completely. She is very affectionate and devoted to her foster mom, always wanting to be in her company whether going for a walk or just lying at her feet, and will be a fabulous addition to any loving family. Her foster mom thinks she would be very pleased to have a couple of human children (around 7-9 years of age) and a fenced yard so she could run around and play with them like a silly, crazy woman. Lots of additional photos of this photogenic girl will be sent to serious prospective adopters. To find out more about Ally, please email or call Kim Perry at (606) 638-0512.
