My Story

Please contact Rachel Durnin ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.sweet shy girl seeking love and safety! ADINA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!! Come meet Adina and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Aug. 4th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Come meet Adina and other great adoptable dogs this Saturday (August 3rd) from 12-2 pm at the Petco in Rockville (1507 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852)! Name: Adina Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of March 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 45 lbs Gets Along With: Adina does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. We would be cautious placing Adina in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living at: DC area boarding facility. She would love a foster or forever home! Special adoption considerations: Adina is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! She's closed that chapter and is eagerly looking ahead to her next - the one where she once again has her own humans and is under her own roof. She would love to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog. Right now she doesn't have enough experience in various environments and is shy. She'd love to have extra loving and patient adopters who help her gain that experience - and a friendly resident dog who shows her how to dog. Adina has so much love and affection to offer - so much desire to be a loyal companion. What do you say? Will she be yours? What My Foster Says About Me: Adina is a sweetheart! She loves to cuddle and be close to her people. She has a lot of energy, so we've been going on long walks and I've provided her with toys to see what she gravitates to. She loves tennis balls and furry/fluffy toys! She loves to play with other dogs in the dog run. She seems to want to play most at night; it takes a minute to get her to wind down but once she's settled she sleeps through the night. Adina also loves long walks. She does pull a little but we've been working on her leash skills. She's learning to sit, stay, and come; now we're working on shake! She even knows to wait by the door so I can wipe her down with her grooming wipes. It's so cute! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
