Ace

Ace is a neutered male Sheltie/Boston Terrier/Chihuahua/?? mix, making him one of the not so rare ultimate designer dogs. Ace was born October 2005. He was with an elderly lady before coming to our shelter. We are not exactly sure why he was surrendered, but suspect that it was a health or mobility problem with his owner. Ace is house-trained. He will scratch at the door when he needs to go out. Even though he is housetrained, please be realistic and expect that he may have an accident or two while he's adjusting to his new home. Ace seems to be fine with other small dogs. He is afraid of cats, but will act tough around them so that they will leave him alone. Ace knows some commands, such as sit, dance, lay & shake. If not in a fenced yard or on a leash, he will run. He likes chew toys, but they need to be the thick rubber variety or he will shred them. Ace has the bad habit of resource guarding. This means that if you try to take away something that he feels is valuable, such as a bowl of food, treat or toy, he will get vicious toward you and may even bite. For this reason, we are not going to adopt him out to a home with young children or other pets. Ace also had a bad habit of chewing - bedding, clothing, anything he can get his teeth on. His new home will have to be willing to crate him when he's unsupervised & work with him (we have a print-out of how to deal with this problem). It will take much patience and probably a lot of time, but this habit can be broken. Ace has tested negative for heartworm, is current on vaccinations and has been neutered. He will be microchipped before leaving our shelter. The adoption fee for Ace is $125.
