My Story

**COURTESY LISTING** - this pet is NOT available through the Pet Placement Center

Kira is a purebred Akita that weighs 105 pounds and was born December 7, 2008. She got glaucoma in her left eye and had to have it removed, but has adjusted fine. She is very mild mannered, but should go to a family without small kids because she likes to "herd" them and can be protective of her toys. She has never hurt a fly, but we don't want to take any chances with the little ones.

She has been raised on Iams food with a little olive oil drizzle. She LOVES her Kong with peanut butter in it. That she will toss and throw at your feet to get you to put peanut butter in. String toys will be demolished in a few minutes as well as dog beds, but she has never damaged couches, clothing, shoes etc. She has hard rubber toys that she will occasionally toss about and play with. She loves to rub her scent on our clothes though. Many times she will get one piece of clothing out of the laundry basket and rub all over it. It's funny, a great big dog rubbing all over a tiny washcloth. If we leave the bathroom door open she will rub herself on the shower curtain. When you pet her she still wants to nibble on your hand like a puppy. She loves chest rubs.

She LOVES the water hose. We direct the stream of water all over and she will chase it up and down hills until she is worn out. She does have gaurd dog tendencies. I leave the blinds up on a couple of my windows so she can look out over her "queendom" as we call it. She barks only if she sees people or activities that she does not know. In other words, the mailman is a regular so she doesn't bother barking. She guards me mostly, always goes with me wherever I go and sleeps beside my bed. When my husband and I hug, she wants to be in the middle of us for her hugs as well. She loves to play frisbee but is still learning how to give it back. She will run hard to go fetch, then run hard back right towards you, then passes you and waits for you to come get it from her. We finally have gotten her to drop it somewhere in our vicinity on her run back. She loves car rides. She rides with her head out the window. I have to be careful not to let her out while unloading groceries, if she sees the car with the hatch open she immediately jumps in. Bread and eggs would not survive. :)

She is up to date on all vaccines, spayed, and housetrained.
