My Story

Meet "Buster," a gregarious 2-3 year old Shepherd/Akita mix that was left in the middle of the night in a pen outside of a large shelter. It was evident when he was found why...his back legs were paralyzed. Was he hit by a car? No one knows. FOCAS was contacted to ask for Angel Fund assistance for medical treatment, which it provided. Buster underwent tests, medical evaluations and 3 weeks of physical therapy. Amid all the poking, prodding, pulling and twisting of his limbs, Buster remained his friendly self and a good patient. You see, Buster seems to adore people companionship. The doctors and staff at the hospital love him. He loves them right back; especially when he gets belly rubs. Buster can put weight on his back legs, if walked in a sling by two people, but he cannot walk unassisted. Thankfully, he has full control over his eliminations, and waits patiently for walks that allow him to “do his business” outside like other dogs. The doctors seem to think Buster would do splendidly with a cart. So, FOCAS is having a special set of “wheelies” made especially for him. You can just see how much he wants to romp and participate in life. He needs a companion…a home ….that will give him that chance. Could that companion be YOU?
