My Story

*** If you have any questions or would like to meet any of our adoptable cats, email [email protected]. Please include a cell number and check your SPAM folder if you do not receive a timely response. This lovely lady has the unfortunate distinction of being one of the longest term cats in our program. Valerie is a 9-year-old, front-paw declawed, long-haired girl that has struggled to find her elusive forever home. Valerie was one of eleven cats that came to NAWS in early 2020 after their owner lost her home. The majority of them were scared and in need of some TLC and socialization. We are happy to say that all of the others have been success stories and have graduated to their forever homes…with the exception of Valerie. She is the last one. After spending a long time in a foster home, she is now back at NAWS, still waiting. Valerie would be so grateful for a quiet forever home where she can feel safe. She is not a fan of our busy rescue environment and is nervous here. We think she is misunderstood - she will hiss at first because she is shy, but is never aggressive. Once she feels safe, she actually loves pets and attention. Volunteers have brushed her and she seems to enjoy it. If you come to meet her, she is not going to be the type of cat that jumps up eagerly to greet you. Instead, you will see her quiet and reserved personality and then her appreciation for gentle attention. Valerie has lived with other cats before, but she is independent. She would prefer kitty siblings that will leave her be. She has the potential to be a quiet, sweet and devoted companion if given the chance. We believe she will thrive in the right home and will just need time to adjust and build trust. Valerie just hasn’t found her special someone yet, and has waited for so long. Do you have a quiet and comfy home for her? Want to help care for her while she waits to find her forever home? You can be a "Sponsor!" Click on the "sponsor" button on this profile and your one-time donation will be used for vital everyday essentials such as her food, litter and medical care! Thank you for helping save lives! All NAWS cats are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines. A Cat Adoption Application is required should you decide you’d like to apply to adopt a NAWS cat. Please complete and submit the application electronically on our website at http://www.nawsus.org.
