My Story

Uma The people who are feeding UMA wrote: Help!!! This amazing cat needs a home right away. Uma was found in the shed in our backyard with six kittens in September 2008. She had made an awesome little nest in the roof/loft of the shed to ensure that her kittens would be safe and warm. Our two hunting dogs were the ones that actually discovered the cat family. Every time I would let the dogs out they would rush off to the shed where they would go crazy running around, sniffing, whining and finally actually pointing to the roof. I thought they had gone mad but after two days of searching, I finally found the little kittens in the roof with their mother all snuggled together in a sea of pink insulation. I immediately ran out and got the mother cat some food and water as she was extremely skinny – she looked like she had been homeless for some time. Feeding six kittens for several weeks on a diet of mice and scraps has really taken a toll on her. Unfortunately I am extremely allergic to cats and have the two dogs so I was not able to bring them into my home. We were able to find loving homes for all of her kittens and are now hoping that some kind soul will open their home up to this amazing mother. She is currently living in the shed where I have tried to make her as comfortable as possible but ideally it would be best if she could have a nice warm house to live in with a family that will love her especially with winter right around the corner. When I first met Uma she appeared a little wild hissing and growling at me but I know now that she was just trying to protect her babies. Now that her kittens are gone she seems to enjoy being petted and she comes right to me and rubs up on me when I go to feed her. For a stray cat she has the most beautiful fur, it feels exactly like rabbit fur, extremely soft. She looks to be quite young, no more than 2 years old I would guess. She has piercing, understanding eyes and when she looks at you, it’s like she’s looking right into your soul. I’m very sad that I’m so allergic because I feel like we formed this little “mom bond”. I helped her with her kittens feeding her and finding them homes and she taught me what it takes to be super mom! The sacrifices, time and effort it takes to take care of six kittens alone – wow! I swear all new human moms could take a lesson or two from this mamma cat!! All in all she is a very special cat that would make a very good companion for someone I’m sure. In the coming weeks I will be making arrangements to have her spayed and vaccinated so that she will be all ready for adoption. Please help Uma and give her a nice warm place to nap this winter. *********** Uma has been adopted by a preschool teacher. She now lives with a bunny and is safe and content in a forever home.
