No, Twyla is not a Manx nor a Manx wannabe (aka mix). She is a Designer cat as a consequence of an irresponsible owner who relegated her to the "great outdoors" without regard for the danger of pregnancies, feline diseases, injuries and death via other animals, vehicles, and manKIND !

Twyla was rescued 6/10/08 at the approximate age of 3 years from a southern Ohio veterinary clinic after the local Dog Warden left her and her 6 kittens to be euthanized. As of 6/3/09, Twyla is estimated to be 4 years of age. (Ohio Animal Control municipalities contract with various veterinary hospitals to kill all the stray felines picked up since Ohio law classifies them as "nuisance wildlife.")

Upon spotting Twyla and her kittens in a cage in the veterinary hospital innocently AWAITING THEIR FATAL INJECTIONS, her now-foster-mom requested they be released to her. Upon approval, their foster mom began veterinary protocols to ensure good health in preparation for adoption to good homes. The first procedure was to test Twyla for Feline Leukemia and FIV to ensure that she and all her kittens were negative for these highly contagious feline diseases.

The GOOD news was that Twyla tested NEGATIVE for both Feline Leukemia and FIV, which meant that her 6 kittens also were free of these highly contagious feline diseases. The BAD news was that, in the process of handling Twyla to draw blood for the FeLeuk/FIV test, her tail degloved (that is, approximately two inches of the skin on the tip end of her tail fell off). And, over the next week or so, much more of her tail degloved. Consequently, when Twyla was spayed on 6/13/08, her tail had to be bobbed as well. However, her bobbed tail only adds to her unique beauty.

Twyla is a very unique looking girl whose unusual gray/gold tiger striped coat has an almost iridescent look. Her long legs and big feet make Twyla appear larger than her petite 7.7 lbs. And her green eyes are mesmerizing as she locks them onto you hoping for some affectionate interaction.

Twyla usually hangs out in a chair centrally located in the house for maximum access to her foster mom and to the many resident foster dogs. (Yes, Twyla likes to hang out in the vicinity of the foster dogs !) From her "perch," she likes to "reach out and touch someone," whether it be to get the attention of her foster mom or to playfully bat the tail of one of the dogs passing by. Unfortunately, in her zeal to play, she forgot to ever retract her claws...not a good thing. Consequently, she lost something else: Her front claws were removed 8/6/08. Now her affectionate gestures are not painful to anyone and can be enjoyed for the sweet, playful nature they are meant to manifest.

When she is not hanging out in the vicinity of the multiple dogs in her foster home, Twyla spends time lounging in her foster mom's office room with 5 other cats with whom she gets along. She doesn't really interact with the other cats one way or the other but very peacefully co-exists with them. The old saying that "curiosity killed the cat" was apparently meant to indicate that cats are innately curious creatures. Her foster mom hasn't noticed this with most of the other cats she has fostered, but "the shoe fits" Twyla. She seems to enjoy intently watching the shenigans of the other cats. And, to satisfy her curiosity, she frequently will sit up on her haunches to sniff something or someone.

Twyla was a great Mom and, now that all of her kittens have gone to other homes, this VERY AFFECTIONATE, ATTENTIVE girl needs a human family of her own for protection, play, and reciprocation of love.
