My Story

Update June 25 - We have raised about $400 towards Spirit's surgery and we have many families interested in adopting her. We are still taking application until we know for sure she is adopted. Updated June 21st: The doc said I am doing great! He said that with the way I am growing that my pins can come out next week. I have no issues walking around however I still do not use my front left leg. The doc said that is normal and it may take up to 6-months for me to start walking on it but that it is fine. Updated June 7th: Well I had my surgery today and it was a success! The vet said it was tedious since I was so little but he loves those challenges. My front leg was so shattered that he had to piece my bones back together and I have 3 pins in that leg. My back leg only needed one pin. I will remain at the vets for the next few days so they make sure I continue to do well. Thanks again Doc! Please see below for information on to where donations can be sent in towards my medical bills. Updated June 6th, 2005: My rescue group took me to one of their other vets today. For just $1,100.00 they can fix both of my legs and amputate my tail! That is excellent news compared to the first quote they received. Please considering making a donation towards my medical bills! More details are listed below in my bio. Thanks! My name has been changed since I have a strong spirit to survive. The vet thinks that I am such a cool kitty (which I am) that he is going to go ahead and perform my surgery on June 7th and give my rescue group time to raise the funds for my bill. Yeah doc! My name is Spirit (formally Tuffy) and I am 8 weeks old. I am a very loving kitten despite my medical issues. My foster mom acquired me on June 4th at her vets while she was having another kitty treated whom she had rescued the week before. My front left leg is broken so badly that the two bones (at the elbow) have separated and are going two different directions. My back left leg is dislocated and the vet said that I have to see an orthopedic vet to be treated. My injures are 10-days old or more and due to the levels of my injuries it will take a few surgeries. Between my two left legs it will be several thousand dollars to fix me up. I also have a broken tail and cuts on my body but those are no big deal. My wounds will go away and my tail will be amputated when I have one of my surgeries. I have splints on my left legs now and go to the specialist on Monday to see about my surgeries. The vet said that I would not be able to walk with my splints nor move for that matter. However...I am such a tough girl (hence my name) that I can crawl around and even prop myself up to eat, drink or to be petted. I show no signs of pain and I am one tough little kitty. I guess you have to be when you are in my condition and am outside on your own fending for yourself. Please send a donation in to me so I can apply it towards my high medical bills. Donations can be sent to: S.A.F.E. Animal Haven: PO Box 3206 Matthews, NC 28106 to the attention of me...Tuffy/Spirit! Thanks!
