Ryla

There’s an Irish blessing that goes like this: “May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more, and may nothing but happiness come through your door.” I’m a pretty white and grey girl named Ryla, which is a name of Irish origin that means “goddess of heavens.” I came to the shelter on Groundhog Day last year! Why am I still here? I’m a lovely, 2-year-old white and grey girl who had been seen hanging around a home in NW Rochester. I’m one of those very shy cats who “doesn’t show well.” I spend a lot of time on the shelves, but I am making progress! I come down more than I used to and stay down for longer periods. I stick around when staff and volunteers I know are in the room. But I run and climb to safety when strangers arrive. I also run from people who approach me, even when they are familiar to me. I have befriended some of the shy kittens and love cuddling with them. I have become especially close to an older kitten named Lynx. Like all the cats here, I deserve a loving, caring home. I deserve security and contentment. As someone who loves cats, you need to be extra patient with me. Please understand that I’ve been here more than a year, and I’ve made slow progress. When I go home, I will not change into an outgoing, affectionate cat overnight. Not in a week, or maybe not even in a month or more. Can you be patient? Can you love me as I am? I might surprise you – and myself. It would help me adjust more quickly to a new home if I could be adopted with my friend Lynx.
