My Story

Please contact [email protected] for more information about this pet.

This is Puzzle....He was picked up as a stray off the streets by Animal Control. He was to be neutered and placed up for adoption, but his blood test came back showing that he is positive for FIV, and he was to be euthanized.

A private rescue saw how handsome he was, and went to great lengths to make sure he was not put down. FIV is a virus of cats that is spread through deep, penetrating wounds or blood. So Puzzle probably contracted the virus while living on the street as an un-neutered male stray. FIV is not contagious to humans or dogs, and is normally spread by fighting tomcats and bite wounds. It is a virus that can lay dormant in the system, but can potentially weaken the cat's immune system, leaving the cat open to other types of infections.

It would be best if Puzzle could find a home with other FIV positive cats in residence, or be an only kitty, and will need to be an indoor-only kitty. He's such a beautiful cat, and has the most gorgeous blue eyes. He's currently staying in a private shelter, and is in a small cage - he does not like it and makes him crabby to be confined. Poor guy! He will probably adjust given time, but some quick decisions had to be made for him, and hopefully it's for the best.

Puzzle is approximately 2 yrs old, has been neutered, vaccinated, flea treated and de-wormed. His adoption fee is $50. If you have any questions about Puzzle or his FIV status, please contact us. For more info about FIV, here's a great link: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fiv.html
