Sweet, sweet, super-sweet, touchy-feely Platypus, the tall, long-legged, spring-y boy who forms a special bond with his person (or people)! Please read about him below and, if interested, be sure to send in your answers to the questions asked in this description box if you would like a prompt reply (please send your answers in the body of an email addressed to
[email protected] - if you are seeing this listing for him, he is still in need of a home - thank you for your time)!
I don't know where to start with this little guy (born Spring 2022), there's so much to praise to the sky about him, but be prepared for someone who's all over you and REALLY into cuddling and kneading and...drooling. He waits for you to sit down and then he takes his place on your lap. As long as there's no cat competition in the area, he wants to climb all over you. Honestly, be prepared for serious drooling - he does it when he wants to show love and is excited by cuddling, and you may want to have a towel nearby and you'll want to keep your distance when you have a "nice" shirt on because he WILL drool on it and then you may have to go change. He just loves loves loves being petted; if you start to pet him, he closes his eyes and blisses out with his deep, loud, intense purr. He doesn't drool except in reaction to a major love session, but then he drools like crazy.
Another thing? Kneading - he does love to knead you all over, first here, then he judges THERE needs to be kneaded, and on and on until he hypnotizes himself into a happy-trance stupor. This really hurts but doesn't hurt at all if you trim his claws, which he is totally fine with allowing you (one person, two hands) to do. He kneads on the floor when anticipating the cuddling-drooling-kneading session he's going to have with YOU.
He's got a lovely, baby-ish squeak and he vocalizes (he never talks unless you are engaging with him and responsive, so don't worry that he might be obnoxious, harassing you with repeated meowing when he wants to get your attention or get something from you). He squeaks and chirps in his teeny voice when he sees you, when he wants a loving session and anticipates that you are about to give him one, and when you're giving him meals, too.
Things that'll make you laugh about this athletic, playful, sporty, but chill kitty (who can get very, very silly - he's a funny as well as a beautiful fellow): he does get the zoomies, galloping around from room to room. He just gets into these moods - boinging around onto and off the furniture, and on and off of you. It would be great if in your home he has room to run around. Though he loves it even more if he has a feline buddy to run from room to room with him (that makes it more fun), he can entertain himself, all by himself. He's a very intelligent cat.
As mentioned before, he wants so much to be stroked on his head that he LIFTS himself up for your touch, standing up on his back legs, shoving his head and even jumping into your hand so that it will pet his head.
Here are just a few downsides to be aware of, nothing major:
1. The drooling! If this bothers you, how it can hang from his mouth and drop on your skin or clothes, he's not the kitty for you.
2. The kneading - not a problem (if you trim his claws), unless you just DON'T like being kneaded all over
3. It'll take him a day or two of hiding to adjust, and he'll hide from people he's not used to (strangers). He's timid with houseguests, but his nature is really to want to be friends, and he'll have that special bond with his regular person/people.
4. He loves to play and would try to chase (in play) a smaller, more submissive kitty. He also has a way of getting beaten up or terrorized by dominant kitties, but would in that case try to defend himself by swatting back. He's never the first to swat!
5. He genuinely prefers better-quality food and sometimes refuses to eat more processed foods in favor of healthier options. Good boy!
6. At first he may not show his normal behavior of love-love-loving being petted, of purring in ecstasy at being touched. He'd need a few days untill you really saw that come out in him, and then he's yours for life. He's skittish at first and even once he has "adopted you" as his very own, he can sometimes play skittish in a flirtatious manner, hopping away from you with a pretend crazy look and then turning right around and coming back. For instance, sometimes you might walk in and he'll give you his scaredy look, do his silly dance, and boing around ("This is what I do, I pretend to be scared, but I'm not really, I'm playing"). If you think you can enter into that playful "flirtatiously skittish" dance with him (it's only occasional - much of the time he's so excited to see you he jumps onto the chair/sofa before you fully sit down, so that you almost sit on HIM rather than him sitting on you), he's the kitty for you!
If interested in trying a trial adoption of Platypus in your home, please write in with your answers to the questions below. If we think that based on the answers he and you sound like a good match, we will ask to exchange references and to arrange a time/day for him to come to your home. Everyone who answers the questions is guaranteed to receive a prompt reply! Thanks!
1. What diet/nutrition would you feed him? Please be specific about what brands of dry food (if any) you would feed him, what brands of canned food (if any) you would feed him, and what brands of raw food (if any) you would feed him, providing the approximate ratio of dry to wet (canned or raw/homemade) food you would offer. If you would let him graze overnight or during the day, please mention that too. Thanks!
2. What are your views, pro or con, in declawing?
3. What are your views, pro or con, on neutering/spaying?
4. Under what circumstances, if any, would you consider parting with him? (We are 100% no-kill and would ask to take him back if for any reason at any time you no longer had him in your family/household.)
5. Would he be indoor only, outdoor only, or a mixture of the two?
6. What kind of water and what type/brand of cat litter would you offer him?
7. What kind of domicile would you share with him (rented apartment, trailer, owned house, rented house, dorm, yurt, etc.) and what other humans and non-humans would live there with you and him?
8. It can be really helpful in determining a good match for us to know something about you - particularly interests/hobbies/leisure pursuits and your source of income (such as job or profession), since cat care can sometimes be expensive. You can also add details, if you wish, such as your previous experiences caregiving for cats, dog-sitting, volunteering; your age; and so forth.
9. If there's anything about Platypus in his looks or his description that appeals to you, "speaking to you", please let us know what it is!
