My Story

Meet Pearl Gray! We were originally calling her Earl Gray when she initially came into the program, until we realized she was female. Pearl Gray has a bad case of RBF, but don't let her grumpy face fool you - she is a sweetie through and through. Pearl came to us as a formerly outside cat. She had lived outside for at least 10+ years, and was in rough shape, especially her mouth. She had to have all of her teeth pulled. This in turn has made it tough for her to groom herself, as her mouth tends to get dirty from eating and she licks that dirt back onto her fur. She is doing her best to be a good girl, she just doesn't understand that she's doing more harm than good. Pearl needs some help keeping clean, namely lots of bathing, brushing, and baby wipes, but she is a total sweetheart. In a perfect world, she would get a bath every few days, but she can make do with daily brushing and wet wipes. She really seems to understand we are only trying to help, and will let us poke and prod without complaint. She'll just sit there and make biscuits or rub on our hands to let us know we're doing a good job. She has a wonderful gentle, rumbley purr that just melts our hearts, and gives the best nuzzles. Pearl is definitely a low-energy girl. The most activity we ever see from her is occasionally she'll hop off our laps during a grooming session and go check out a nearby cage. Most of the time, she chooses to stay in her cushioned, covered bed and just observe the other cats. She would make a wonderful lapcat or TV-watching buddy. Pearl is FIV+. FIV+ cats can live happy, healthy lives as long as they're indoor only. FIV is technically contagious, but typically only transferred through deep bite wounds, which isn't a possibility for Pearl as she does not have any teeth. Because of this, she is okay to live with other cats. In her former foster home, she did really well with the foster's cats and dogs. She was more interested in them than they were in her, and was always trying to bunt them and make friends. We think she would be fine with gentle kids; since she's a senior, she is fragile, so they would need to be careful handling her. Pearl Gray is estimated to be at least 10 years old as of February 2024. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. With an approved application, her adoption fee is $10.60.
