My Story
My foster mom has had a lot of cats but she has never met one SO happy to be alive and enjoys anything in life. So let me tell you about myself!
Unfortunately how I ended up in my foster mom's house is a sad tale. My mom that took wonderful care of me for the first part of my life sadly was admitted to the hospital. Fortunately, her family knew this great lady that knew A LOT about cats and dogs. They asked her to help me and my four siblings that were living at my mom's residence to help us get the care we needed and safe places to go as they knew she probably wouldn't be coming home.
While the family wanted to keep me, one of their dogs isn't so great with cats so my foster mom said given the situation, she would foster me to make sure I was safe. AND she saw just how amazing I was really quick, so I made a great first impression. They picked me up and I went into the carrier so easily for them, she was impressed. She was even further impressed when I was purring the whole time! I wasn't scared at all.
She got me settled in at her home, and vetted through this really awesome rescue called Heart of America Humane Society. Shortly after, we found out my mom had passed away but unfortunately for me, that wasn't the only bad news. We found out I tested positive for FIV, which is feline AIDs I learned. Now, while it -sounds- bad, it's not as bad as I thought. I can be with other cats that have FIV, or by myself and live life just fine. As long as me and other non-FIV cats get along really well and there's no fighting, we can live together too (and I'm sweet as cake so that might not be an issue on my end)!
Just like anyone else, I could be here awhile or a short time. But while I am here, I am going to enjoy it as much as I can. Right now, I'm happy to be alive, safe, warm, fed, and loved so that's a good start! I got all of my vaccines AND a microchip like a champ! The very nice lady who does the microchip said that usually most cats get really mad about it because it's not the most comfortable thing to have done (even if it is for our safety). But I just laid there and made biscuits the whole time while I purred away. When you were almost euthanized by one vet from having FIV, anything would make you happy to be alive so you would make biscuits too!
See, when we found out I had FIV, a vet told my foster mom all these scary things about my teeth and my skin and this sore I had on my back. She was so sad, but she said she wouldn't let me go alone and wanted to make sure that my previous family had a chance to say goodbye. But something didn't add up to her so she had another vet look at me. She told him I was eating great (I do LOVE my food, especially that wet stuff), drinking fine and everything else was working, plus I was full of energy and happiness. That vet agreed and said my teeth were not the worst he had seen but maybe in the future they could do with a cleaning and maybe some work since FIV can affect that stuff. The sore turned out to be ringworm so that was an easy fix!
My foster mom was really happy that she didn't have to tell me goodbye that day because she said I'm just too good of a kitty to have my life be so short. She would keep me in a heartbeat if she didn't already have a big zoo. But she said until I find my next permanent home, I can stay with her safe and sound.
So in short, I've got FIV but it doesn't drag me down at all! I am the best purring biscuit maker out there! I am okay with dogs as long as they don't get overly playful with me; I puff up, bat at them and run if they get too excited about me. They can sniff me and be calm around me, but the line is drawn there so make sure I have a getaway place I can get to. I did live with other cats so I am also a good feline roomy. I love every human I have met. No seriously, even kids. Again... best cat ever remember!?
