Hey there, I'm Mercury, your soon-to-be best friend and snuggle buddy!
I'm a 1.5-year-old Russian Blue mix with a sweet and super friendly personality that will melt your heart. My beautiful charcoal gray coat with silver-tipped hair is sure to catch your eye, but it's my loving nature that will win you over.
I'm a big purr machine and love to be held. Seriously, if you pick me up, you'll instantly hear my motor running. I adore rolling over for belly rubs and could spend all day being petted. There's nothing better than soaking up all the love and attention!
I came to the Animal Rescue Foundation through one of our partner vets who needed help placing me after my previous owner went into assisted living and sadly could not take me with them. Despite the tough start, I've found joy and friendship in my free roam cat room, getting along great with all the other friendly kitties here.
I've been neutered, am up to date on all my shots, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and I'm on flea/tick preventative. I'm all ready to find my forever home!
If you're looking for a sweet, loving, and purr-fect companion, look no further. Apply to adopt me at ARFCT.org, and let's start our adventure together!
Some very important things you should know when applying:
Our cats/kittens have been fully examined by a vet and are healthy and up to date on all shots/vaccinations unless otherwise noted. Adoption fees for adult cats are $250 ($265 if microchipped by us). Kittens are $275 (microchipped).
What our adoption fees include:
Adult cats have received a wellness exam, fecal exams to test for intestinal parasites, treated for any known/existing conditions to bring them back to health, SNAP tested for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), and Heartworm. They have also received flea/tick preventative, have been spayed/neutered and are up to date on both their distemper and rabies vaccinations.
For kittens, they have received a wellness exam, fecal exams to test for intestinal parasites, treated for any known/existing conditions to bring them back to health, SNAP tested for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), and Heartworm. They have also received flea/tick preventative. All cats and kittens have received their distemper vaccination(s) prior to adoption. Young kittens will receive their rabies vaccination at a time appropriate to their age and size (generally it is administered by our vets post-adoption or at the time spay/neuter and microchips are done). The adoption fee for all kittens includes the future administration of their rabies shot, spay/neuter and microchip at the time of spay/neuter by our partner vet(s).
Specifically, if you are looking to adopt a kitten(s):
We are only accepting applications for kittens adopted IN PAIRS (or, singly, if you already have a young friendly cat or kitten of similar age at home for them to bond with). It's vital for proper cat behavioral development that kittens have a friendly fellow kitten or cat playmate at home they can grow and learn from.
For all applicants:
Please note that our organizations long-time policy is that we do not adopt out our animals to households with children aged six or younger- we just dont know how our individual animals will react around young children who are still learning what it means to respect an animals boundaries and unfortunately, past experience has proven its a higher risk that a kitten or cat is returned to shelter because of this. We also do not adopt to out-of-state applicants other than towns bordering Connecticut or those not within a one and a half hour driving distance to our shelter. We also do not do same day adoptions- please expect to have at least 2 visits as part of the adoption process at our shelter- its important to us that we are properly matching animals to adopters and preparing our adopters for their special adoption day and all our ducks (or should we say cats?) are in a row. Sorry, no exceptions.
Happily, we expect our volunteers to receive many inquiries for our cats and kittens. Unfortunately, if your application is incomplete, we will not be able to consider it. Please double check your application for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting it to us. Please be as thorough as possible when answering application questions as the more you elaborate, the more information we have to consider, the more likely we are to have a full picture of the care, support, and love our cats/kittens will receive for their adopted lifetime and your particular application will be at the top of our mind when placing cats/kittens in their chosen forever homes.
Once your application has been reviewed and approved, we are happy to invite you and your family in for a personalized meet and greet appointment with our cats and kittens.
You can learn about each cat/kitten and complete an application at ARFCT.org and submit it to our email at
[email protected] for consideration. Thank you!
