Mary's last owners let her have kittens, then decided they would rather have one of the newborn kittens than Mary. So they abandoned her and the rest of her newborn litter at the shelter. She is now done with mom duties forever, and is looking for a home that will baby her! She is probably under a year old herself and is very affectionate and playful.
