My Story

Please check here for updated adoption hours. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I am looking for a home with a patient person. What my friends at ACC say about me: Marigold tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She will likely need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred AND be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Due to the behavior shown, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. A volunteer writes: Marigold is a petite little girl with a kaleidoscopic, multi-colored coat that has a moire quality. That fabulous coat ends in four black paws, an effect that's exceedingly cute. This little girl has a lot of living to do and, I think, just needs to get used to new faces. She is very shy, but can be drawn out with the red laser light, which she finds irresistibly fascinating. In fact, I'd venture to say the red light is the key to unlocking her friendship because she forgets herself in the chase. When the light is bouncing around, she'll chase it even to the front of the cubby, which she otherwise avoids like the plague. If she spends enough time playing there at the front of her condo, she'll likely soon realize that being close to visitors ain't so bad. Another volunteer writes: Sometimes it's all about meeting someone where they are. We know the shelter isn't where Marigold wants to be, so we've been trying to add some brightness as she waits to meet you. She's been with us since May, so in that time we've learned that Marigold loves laser pointers, impromptu pipe cleaner feather extenders, and basically anything that gives her the space to be the playful cat she wants to be. It's no secret that Marigold doesn't love the Care Center. She hasn't been very interested in pets and cuddles, nor is she one to wait at the front of her condo for hellos. But we remember that this is all very new for Marigold and she came from a home with many other cats, so it's been an adjustment. I offered her my hand and she politely declined. I knew from staff and volunteers that she loves treats and laser pointers so I brought both. She stretched and danced around her condo, happy for the reprieve from daily life at the shelter. Playing with me was ok, but a forever home is where she really wants to be. Primary Color: Tortoiseshell Weight: 8.6lbs Age: 1yrs 2mths 0wks Animal has been Spayed
