Luther

Gender: Male Date of Birth: June 3, 2021 (estimated) Luther came to us from the Luther Marsh area, after the community was feeding him for the past few years. He would often hang around for days at a time, and then go weeks or months without being seen. This time, Luther showed up more injured than he’s been in the past, and it was clear he needed to be seen by a vet as he was limping and not putting any weight in his front paw. A community member was able to secure him, and bring him to our Vet Coordinator, who immediately brought him to our vet team at Riverside Animal Hospital. It was evident that Luther has been in fights in the past, though this injury seems to be different, like he stepped on something sharp. After multiple X-rays over a few weeks, it was apparent that he was not healing as he should be, as the bone in his toe was continuously deteriorating. The decision was made to amputate his 4th toe, and sew/fuse his 3rd and 5th toes together for stability. Miraculously, Luther is both FIV and FeLeuk negative, which is quite the shock after being a stray all this time. Luther has now healed completely and is back to being playful and mobile. He currently lives in a home with many cats of all ages, and a large friendly dog. Luther doesn’t get along with any of the adult cats (probably due to all his years outside fighting for his life), though he does get along well with the young foster kittens as well as the large resident dog. Luther is looking for a home where he is either the only cat, or to be adopted with one of the kittens he currently lives with. With proper introductions we believe he would do well with friendly dogs and older children.
