My Story

I need a temp foster August 14-18 Please email [email protected] to sign up to foster! Hi, my name is Lunchbox! I'm from Minnesota. It's a quirky name and I'm a quirky kitty. I spent the first 3 years of my life in a house with so many cats (my foster mom says it's called a hoarding situation) that I didn't get the socialization most cats do. My coping mechanism is to hide and my foster mom is working with me to build up my confidence so I'll venture out from my comfort (hiding) spot when I get visitors in my room. Over time, I've been brave enough to let her pet me, and boy do I like pets! When she tries to stop petting, I let her know I want more by rolling over onto my side. Sometimes I'll give a little meow, as well. She thinks it's so cute, she pets me more every time. I've also started feeling comfortable venturing a bit out of my spot to eat wet food when my foster mom is in the room. And recently, I surprised her by doing this when the man who lives in the house was also in the room. Yes, I'm a brave girl! My foster mom has all sorts of balls, feathery things, strings, and much more that she tries to entice me with, as well as some dried grassy stuff (catnip) she sprinkles near me thinking I might like it but I don't get what she's doing. I didn't grow up with these things. Maybe once I'm more comfortable, I'll feel secure enough in my surroundings to give play and/or catnip a try, but we're not there yet. My foster mom thinks I might come out of my shell a bit more if I eventually have a cat friend to show me the ropes. There is a cat who lives in this house but my foster mom doesn't think it's time yet to introduce us. I've heard her say something about snail-paced slow introductions. My foster mom says I'm a very polite kitty. I don't scratch on anything and I'm a pro at using the litter box! I have tried to soothe myself while in heat by doing a small pee on a blanket on the bed for the pheromones during the long span of nighttime. My foster mom thinks this should end once I'm spayed (appt is on 7/8). I like wet and dry food. You can leave the dry food out for me to graze on. I only eat a much as I need. All I really need is a space of my own and a lot of patience from my people. I'll slowly come out of my shell and learn what it is to be part of a family of humans who love me. From her foster: For the first couple of months: a quiet space of her own. No young children. No dogs, for sure. A cat friendly cat may be a good thing for her after she settles into her new space. Food with fish in it may cause her tummy issues.
